The CEZC is also a committed partner in efforts to revitalize the County’s Bayshore region. The CEZC provided crucial funding to acquire shipping sheds that are now the sight of the successful Bayshore Discovery Project in Commercial Township. Moreover, the CEZC was a partner and financial contributor to key oyster revitalization projects, an industry that is crucial to the economy in the Commercial Township Empowerment Zone. With CEZC support, a shell-planting program has significantly improved oyster harvest from the NJ waters of the Delaware Bay. Under the program, shells are planted on the bottom of the Delaware Bay. The shells assist with the recruitment of oyster larvae, which are then transplanted to seed beds ideally located for their growth and survival. The CEZC also provided financing for Commercial Township to undertake a comprehensive strategic planning process focused on identifying areas of growth and development potential. And most recently, the CEZC stepped in to provide up front financing for the Charlesworth Restaurant & Hotel, a landmark business in the bayshore region which sustained damage during Hurricane Sandy.
